Part L Building Regulations
From Sustainable Building Resource
Part L of the Building Regulations 2006 is one of the main policy tools used to govern energy consumption in new domestic (and non-domestic) construction.
Building regulations exist to ensure the health and safety of people in and around buildings, setting standards for design and construction. Part L specifically addresses energy usage with regulations concerning consumption, regulating areas such as air-tightness, solar gains and energy for heating, lighting and ventilation.
The UK’s building regulations are to be progressively tightened over the next decade to boost energy efficiency and reduce the carbon footprint of buildings.
