Combined Heat and Power

Combined Heat and Power (CHP) is the term used to describe the co-generation of electricity and useful heat.

The concept aims to capture waste heat from the electricity generating process and utilise it for space and water heating. CHP is an extremely effective means of reducing energy costs and the environmental impact of buildings.

It’s common in large buildings with simultaneous demand for heat and electricity for long periods. As typical CHP systems produce roughly twice as much waste heat to electricity generated, there must be a significant on-site heat demand to achieve high efficiency and to make the system economical.
