Carpets can be seen as an attractive eco floor covering, however is most production there is a wide range of harmful chemicals that are used for bleaching, dyeing and backing. You can get more information by looking at the wiki as there is a lot more information on carpets there.
At the Eco Home Centre we support two main types of carpets:
Re-used Carpet Tiles from Cleanstream Carpets.
Cleanstream Carpets is a community interest company. Their aims include supporting the community via the re-use and recycling of carpet. The Directors are all volunteers from across the carpet tile industry and social sector. Their operations are run by well-known South Wales based community re-use business 'Too Good To Waste'. They sell good quality used carpet tiles and supply them as repurposed tiles. The tiles are graded to meet people's requirements and come with a guarantee that they have been diverted from landfill.
Eco Collection from Alternative Flooring
This is a range of carpets that have the tough German Oeko-tex 100 certification. All the carpets are natural wool with a cotton backing. These are available locally in Cardiff so contact the office at the Eco Centre for details.
